A new survey has found only 10 per cent of large Australian enterprises prefer bring your own technology (BYOT) schemes, as opposed to other mobility strategies.
Ovum’s large enterprise survey was based on the responses of 80 Australia and New Zealand companies who had over 1000 employees, with Ovum’s senior analyst Claudio Castelli saying the results show enterprises are still in control of the devices used by their employees.
“These enterprises still have a high degree of control over mobility and are not inclined to adopt a bring-your-own-device policy” he said.
Despite recent reports having indicated employers are being forced to create a BYOT policy, Castelli said this pressure has not been felt by Australian IT managers.
“In the long term ... CIOs will be pressured to respond to users' preferences, and will need to support an increasing number of applications and devices chosen by users.”
While it is a long-term concern, Castelli said employers should not put mobility plans on the backburner, but instead look at creating partnerships with system integrators to support a mobile business.
“Providers should take a proactive approach and make sure their device management capabilities and partnerships expand to support enterprises in dealing with this greater diversity,” he said.
The survey results come as IDC earlier this year said mobility had increased dramatically as a priority for Australian CIOs.
