Optus pricing information for the Apple iPhone 4S
Optus and Vodafone have released detailed pricing information for Apple’s iPhone 4S, which will be available in Australia from 14 October.
Optus will offer the smartphone on a range of 24-month plans, with pricing starting at $49 per month (with a monthly device charge of $10) for 1.5GB of data on the iPhone 4S 16GB.
The handset is also available on a number of plans for zero dollars upfront, ranging from $79 per month for 3GB of data up to $99 per month for 5GB of data.
Vodafone will also launch the device on 14 October and has opened pre-order for customers through Vodafone stores, on the telco’s website and over the phone.
A range of 24-month plans are available for zero dollars upfront, with pricing starting from $49 per month for 1.5GB of data up to $79 per month for 3GB.
Rival telco Telstra has also been "registering interest" for the device. However a spokesperson for the company could not disclose any pricing and plan information or exactly when these details are expected to be released.
The spokesperson would also not disclose the number of customers who had pre-ordered the device.
The device was launched last week, prior to the death of Apple co-founder and former chief executive, Steve Jobs. It features the same dual-core 1GHz Apple A5 processor used in the iPad 2, a jump from the iPhone 4's 800MHz processor, a built-in “assistant" called “Siri” that responds to voice commands and a more powerful camera including high resolution video recording.
During the iPhone 4S unveiling Apple also announced the 12 October launch of iCloud: A set of free services to work with the iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches, Macs and Windows PCs that automatically and wirelessly stores content in the iCloud.
