Motorola launches HTML5 framework for mobile apps

RhoElements allows multi-platform development of mobile enterprise apps

Motorola Solutions has unveiled an HTML5 software framework designed for developing cross-platform mobile apps.

'Motorola RhoElements' can be used for developing Web-based applications for devices running Windows Embedded Handheld and Windows CE. Apps can also be deployed on the company's ET1 Android tablet. The framework allows developers to create mobile apps with "a consumer-style look and feel" and a consistent interface across multiple mobile platforms, according to Motorola.

RhoElements includes support for WebSQL and offline apps through caching. It is compatible with applications designed for Motorola's PocketBrowser. Supported devices include Motorola's ES400 enterprise digital assistant, MC9590, MC9596 and MC959B mobile computers, MC9598 barcode terminal, (WM6.1) and MK4000 'micro kiosk'. The framework includes support for operations such barcode scanning, signature capture and printing.

The RhoElements offering was made possible by Motorola Solutions' purchase of Rhomobile.
