Anittel Group enters carrier agreement with NBN Co

Townsville and Armidale customers first in line for IT provider’s fibre broadband, Cloud services

National Broadband Network (NBN) regional customers in Townsville and Armidale, NSW, will be given priority for high speed fibre access from IT and telco services provider Anittel Group, (ASX: AYG) following the signing of a services agreement with NBN Co.

The deal also means that Anittel can offer its Cloud-based service offerings to customers in regional areas such Tasmania.

Managing director, Peter Kazacos, said in a statement that Cloud technology is the new standard for business operations and that while many metro business have been able to take advantage of Cloud, regional firms have been left to play “catch up.”

“The NBN will facilitate reliable high speed internet access at an affordable price which will mean regional small and medium businesses are no longer constricted by their location,” he said.

Kazacos said that the company planned to increase headcount and expand its regional footprint as it saw opportunity to add up to 30 sites in regional locations. At present, it has 16 offices around Australia in NSW, ACT, Victoria, WA, SA, Queensland and Tasmania.

The company has also been on the acquisition path, in April acquiring Dubbo-based managed IT services provider, IT West.

Anittel has been contacted for further comment.
