Smartphones penetration expected to soar by 2015

Smartphones predicted to be used by 10 million more Australians

Australian smartphone users are expected to hit 18.5 million by 2015, according to analyst firm Telstye.

Telsyte's forecasts Australian smartphones users will account for 90 per cent of all mobile phone users in the next four years, jumping up from 50 per cent in 2011. This incredible increase higlights how important it is for businesses to make the shift to mobile.

“Over the coming four years Telsyte estimates that more than 30 million smartphones will be sold in Australia creating a vibrant and competitive market for vendors, carriers and retailers,” Telsyte research director, Foad Fadaghi, said in a statement.

Although Apple will continue to dominate the smartphone market until 2014, Android handsets from venders such as HTC, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, and Huawei will increasingly win market share, Telstye's new report, Australian Smartphone Market Study 2011-2015, predicts.
