BigCommerce, an e-commerce software platform, has today launched a $2 million integration fund for developers.
BigCommerce is calling on developers to build and submit an integration or application for Web, mobile or desktop that uses the platform’s API to receive a chunk of the $2 million fund. Successful ideas will receive an investment of up to $20,000 to help fund the project’s development.
Entries will be assessed on their ability to drive more traffic to businesses running on BigCommerce and simplify the integration process between BigCommerce with a business’ existing systems and applications.
BigCommerce currently connects with more than 100 applications, including Facebook, eBay, Yahoo Search Marketing, Google Analytics and SurveyMonkey.
BigCommerce vice-president of engineering, Soren Harner, said the software solution is heading away from being a “piece of disparate e-commerce software” and towards a more developer-centric model.
“Our biggest focus from an engineering point of view has been to shift BigCommerce from a piece of disparate e-commerce software that businesses can use to sell online, to a true platform on which developers can build and integrate with existing software and systems,” Harner said.
“The idea here is simple: If developers want to build on BigCommerce, we want to reward them for their hard work with up to $20,000 per project. We’ll also provide them with exposure to almost 1,000,000 website visitors per day and over 20,000 clients via our website, email, social media,” BigCommerce chief marketing officer, Jeremy Arnone, said in a statement.
