David Jones taps IBM for multi-channel platform

David Jones has handed IBM a deal to deploy a multi-channel retail sales platform, covering the company's retail, web, mobile and social media efforts.

David Jones Limited (ASX:DJS) has contracted IBM to provide a new multi-channel retail sales platform.

IBM has been appointed to develop an e-commerce platform to allow David Jones to provide a consistent experience across its physical and online stores and mobile sites.

IBM will provide its IBM Smarter Commerce Solution for the project, and will develop and integrate David Jones' online web design and application development, as well as its social media and promotion efforts.

The vendor will also develop David Jones' capabilities for back end order and inventory management, as well as for analytics and reporting.

David Jones also announced in November that it has contracted the UK's PCMS to deploy a new point-of-sale (POS) system.

David Jones CEO Paul Zahra said the IBM and PCMS deals are “indicative of our... commitment to transforming our business into a fully integrated multi-channel retailer.”

Financial terms of the IBM deal have not been disclosed, but David Jones said it will provide further details about its multi-channel strategy shortly.

DJS shares fell 1.57 per cent during Friday's trading to $2.500.
