The first week at university can be an intimidating time for new students, but a smartphone app developed by University of NSW engineering student Nicholas Cellini aims to make life easier.
Lost on Campus is a free iOS app that helps students find lecture theatres and tutorial rooms, cafes and vending machines, toilets and parking.
“Using the app, you can easily search the room number. This brings up a map, telling users how far they are from their destination and how long it will take to get there,” said Cellini.
The original version of the program was the Unofficial UNSW Map App, but after being contacted by Student Services Australia it was expanded to cover other universities and now supports 27 campuses and 20,000 locations.
“It was the number one free navigation app in the first week of launch, and is on track to have 50,000 users by the end of March,” said Cellini.
Cellini said that in the future the app will include user-submitted data so that people can upload more locations.
