Tivoli updates Policy Director with Linux, I-mode

Tivoli Systems Inc. is adding support for Linux, mobile technologies like I-mode and enhanced Java features to the new version of Tivoli Policy Director, the company announced Tuesday.

Policy Director is a rules-based information and application access control package for electronic business. Version 3.8 will include a new browser-based management tool for administering user and group accounts and policies, Tivoli said. The system also will allow user administration delegation, so that a business partner can be given the access rights to administer accounts for their employees. Policy Director 3.8 also will include single sign-on enrollment for e-communities, Tivoli said.

The new version of the application, which already interoperates with products from Tivoli's corporate parent IBM Corp. and sibling Lotus Development Corp., further will include SSL (secure sockets layer) programming interfaces, XML (Extensible Markup Language) support for security incident reporting and architecture enhancements that allow for greater scalability, the company said.

Tivoli Policy Director 3.8 will be available worldwide on Sept. 28 in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Pricing will be based on the number of users and licenses purchased.
