SecureWorks adds McAfee antivirus to managed security

SecureWorks Inc., a managed security services provider, will begin offering its customers antivirus protection using technology licensed from McAfee ASaP, a division of Network Associates Inc., SecureWorks said Wednesday.

SecureWorks already offers firewall and intrusion prevention services to almost 150 customers, primarily in the financial services and health care markets, according to Robert Minkhorst, president and chief executive officer of SecureWorks. The company's new offering of antivirus services will be aimed at companies in these markets and other medium-sized businesses, said Marci McCarthy, director of product marketing. Managed security services are ideal for smaller companies that may not have the resources or staff to devote to full-time security work, she said.

McAfee ASaP is the managed security services division of McAfee. It offers managed firewalls, antivirus, vulnerability assessment and more.

SecureWorks sees managed security services as consisting of six components, McCarthy said: antivirus, firewall, content scanning, intrusion detection, vulnerability assessment and anti-tampering technology. The company will pursue partnerships for the areas in which it does not yet offer services, she said.

Pricing for SecureWorks' services is based on four tiers of service, as well as on the number of desktops covered. Intrusion detection and antivirus service for 450 desktops begins at US$50,000. The service is immediately available worldwide.
