Open Tel switches to international markets

Open Telecommunications has launched its own softswitch, which includes support for US and international standards-based networks.

OpenCallAgent is a softswitch that enables voice services and establishes call connections on packet data networks. It will initially be deployed in the Australia-wide COMindico network under an agreement signed in December, and a mobile variant is currently being developed for LG Electronics in Korea.

Using Open Telecommunications' openCallAgent, telco company COMindico will provide packet-based telecommunications network -- voice, data, video and multimedia services delivered over a single network.

"With the CAGR (compound annual growth rate) for softswitches in Asia-Pacific projected at 139 per cent over the next five years, and our competitors focusing solely on North America, Open Tel is well placed to capitalise on the growth in this market," claimed Ray Freeman, general manager of OT's packet telephony group.

According to Freeman, openCallAgent allows an operator to upgrade the network, at the same time leaving a profitable migration path to next-generation architecture and innovative services.
