CA Technologies releases Nimsoft Monitor 6

Latest version of unified monitoring solution to further enable users to visualise IP traffic

CA Technologies is aiming to help enterprise IT and service providers “do more with less” with the release of the latest version of Nimsoft Monitor.

CA Nimsoft Monitor 6 works by visualising the IP traffic of networks in ways that can assist administrators in optimising application service levels.

Nimsoft unified solutions product management VP, Tim Van Ash, expects the improved capabilities of the solution to appeal to the Australian market

"We saw tremendous interest in the capabilities during test by Australian customers involved in the beta, but this is also a reaction that we recorded from overseas users,” he said.

“Performance management of your infrastructure is related more to technology domains than it is to regions.”

For example, if someone is a VMware customer, Van Ash says they are going to have the same needs as everyone else, regardless of region.

Growth spurt

The area where the conversation changes is when it comes to scale, where in the US the number of virtual machines is in the “hundreds of thousands."

“Nimsoft’s biggest customer in the Cloud space is a license for monitoring of approximately 90,000 virtual machines,” he said.

In Australia, however, it’s typically between the 2000 to 5000 range, so Nimsoft is not seeing quite the same level of scale yet.

That is not to say the situation will not change, as in the US a few years ago, CA Technologies releases Nimsoft Monitor 6 says most providers were between 5000 to 10,000 range.

“So we’ve been able to grow with them and provide a continuous path through scalability,” he said.

“From an Australian perspective, it wouldn’t surprise me if we start hearing of requests for 30,000 to 50,000 virtual desktops."
