Moshtix announces Passbook app ticket support

Apple's new app used for mobile ticketing.

Gig goers can now access Moshtix tickets via their iPhone using Apple’s new Passbook app. The Australian ticketing company also announced a relaunch of its website.

Using Passbook, released with iOS 6, Moshtix customers can keep and use digital copies of their tickets. In addition, the integration lets Moshtix and promoters send customers mobile notifications, Moshtix said. Moshtix previously allowed customers to use their mobiles as tickets using a special barcode.

“Mobile ticketing is fast increasing in popularity,” said Moshtix chief executive, Harley Evans. “Our compatibility with Apple’s Passbook simplifies the ticketing experience easier for our consumers.”

While the absence of near-filed communication in the iPhone 5 has surprised some in the industry, observers—including NAB and analysts—have been watching what Apple will do with its Passbook app.

Apple is among many companies fighting to be consumers’ primary digital wallet. The new Passbook app “represents the starter kit for Apple getting into payments long term,” Gartner US analyst Ken Dulaney recently told Computerworld Australia. “This ability to store company credentials in a secure place is an important step and could have long-term implications.”

Meanwhile, Moshtix said it has refreshed the look of its website, adding more video, and better search and social media integration.

“These new features follow the work we did earlier in the year to ensure our ticketing system can handle major on sales, as evidenced with the success of this year’s Splendour in The Grass festival which sold out in record time with virtually no customer issues or complaints,” Evans said. “We now know we can manage on sales of any size.”
