Mobile customers can now get Optus 4G without a contract.
The number-two telco today launched prepaid 4G services today in areas where the faster mobile service is available, including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane CBD and Surfers Paradise, and the greater Newcastle and Hunter regions.
Optus revealed a range of monthly plans costing between $30 and $100. All include unlimited voice calls to other Optus customers, unlimited SMS to Australian mobiles and unlimited social network access to Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn, eBay and Foursquare.
The cheapest plan ($30 monthly) includes up to 250 minutes talk, $30 credit and 500 MB of data. The priciest plan ($100) includes up to 900 minutes talk, $100 credit and 5GB data.
Optus also announced two 4G prepaid mobile broadband bundles including either a 4G USB dongle or a 4G portable Wi-Fi modem that can connect up to 10 devices. The bundles will be available from Friday.
Optus didn’t announce pricing details for the mobile broadband plans.
Since 2009, Optus has spent $1.8 billion upgrading its network, with $600 million over the past year.
