We may be new to Clearwell, but not to eDiscovery: Symantec

Local Symantec customer talks about being early adopter and supporter of Clearwell

Symantec is dipping its feet into eDiscovery with its recently acquired Clearwell platform.

That is not to say that Symantec is new to the eDiscovery game. Symantec senior systems engineering specialist, Alan Watkins, said the company has been working for a long time with the Intelligent Information range of products.

“Our eDiscovery products worked in tandem with our archiving solution to help customers execute on their Information Retention Plan,” he said.

Symantec’s recent acquisition of Clearwell also augmented the vendor’s solutions by adding a tool that can meet the eDiscovery requirements of its customers, regardless of where the information resides.

“With Clearwell, we have a solution that covers the entire spectrum of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model, managing the data workflow from Information Management through ECA [Enterprise Collaboration Architecture], to Review and Production of discovered information,” Watkins said.

First contact

Melbourne-based advisory firm, KordaMentha, is a Symantec client that has been using Clearwell since it was made available in Australia.

The firm, which had heard about eDiscovery’s reputation for speed and effectiveness, turned to Symantec to build a 50 person forensics practice in four years with Clearwell.

“[With eDiscovery] we can get people in front of relevant documents as quickly as possible, particularly emails,” KordaMentha director, Craig Macaulay, said.

KordaMentha first examined a range of eDiscovery solutions before ultimately settling for Clearwell.

As an early adopter, Symantec’s Watkins says the firm would became influential in making the solution available in Australia

As for how KordaMentha first heard about Clearwell, Watkins traces it back to an "impressive" trade demonstration at a recent conference.

“Their enthusiastic uptake of the solution was also based on the IT team’s previous experience of using Clearwell technology in previous roles,” he said.
