Sony has launched an online store which will allow PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PC users to buy games and videos online.

The online store will be available to Australia and New Zealand users and will also be available in 15 European countries.

Users will be able to download games, add-ons, themes, movies and television shows directly to their PS3 and PS Vita gaming systems.

Video content can be viewed on Windows PCs and is only available in Australia, Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Italy.

Sony also plans to release smartphone and tablet browsing options in the future, as well as extend the online store to North America and other countries.

Sony sold more than 160,000 PS Vitas during the opening week of the holiday shopping season in the US.

The company also sold its 70 millionth PS3 console in November, a major milestone for the game console.
