How to nominate someone for Internet Hall of Fame

National Baseball Hall of Fame voters made headlines this week for sending steroid-era players a message by not letting any of them into the Cooperstown shrine this year. Nothing like that's going to happen with the Internet Society's Internet Hall of Fame, which today opens up the nomination process for its class of 2013.

The public is invited to submit nominations through Feb. 18 for candidates to join last year's inaugural class of 33 "pioneers," "innovators" and "global connectors," including Vinton Cerf, Tim Berners-Lee, Mitchell Baker, Linus Torvalds and Al Gore, in the online-only Hall.

"Individuals who have played a significant role in the conceptualization, building, and development of the Internet in any region or country are considered for induction each year into one of the three categories of the Internet Hall of Fame," according to the Internet Society.

The 2013 inductees will be announced and honored at a ceremony held June 26 in Istanbul.
