AARNet, NBN connect primary school students

Primary school students in four states have worked on sustainability stories using video conferencing, NBN

Junior newsreaders in New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria will be broadcasting their sustainability stories via Australia’s Academic and Research Network (AARNet) and the National Broadband Network (NBN) today.

A live studio audience at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne will get to hear and view the stories which are the result of a six-week Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Splash pilot education project called Making the News.

ABC Splash is an education website offering students access to digital resources aligned with the Australian primary school curriculum.

Primary school students from PLC Armidale (NSW), Willunga School (SA), Circular Head Christian School (Tasmania) and North Fitzroy Primary School (Victoria) were involved in the process of researching, writing and filming their own local news stories based on the theme of sustainability.

AARNet is a service provider for the NBN which means it is able to extend its research and education services portfolio to schools and other qualifying organisations utilising the NBN’s fibre optic infrastructure.
