Cheap iiNet 4G plan for SMBs includes little data

New 4G plans include free calls among business users

Another Australian operator has released an inexpensive 4G plan that provides a diminutive data allowance.

While 4G lets users consume video and other rich media at high speeds, the cheapest from a range of new iiNet 4G mobile plans targeting small and medium businesses (SMBs) includes only 200MB data. The plan costs $14.95 monthly per user.

Watching one 5-minute YouTube video at 480p (standard definition) will use 20MB, and the same video in 1080p HD will consume 62MB, according to WhistleOut. That means a given user could watch less than four 5-minute HD videos in a given month.

Customers that use more data than their allowance on the iiNet plan are charged 5 cents per MB. That’s low compared to other 4G plans in the market, but still means an extra $5 per month for every 100MB in excess data used.

Consumer advocates have warned mobile users to beware of cheap 4G plans that might lead to big bill shock. Other similar plans include a $9 4G plan from Vaya with 100MB data and a $20 4G plan from Exetel including 200MB.

Other new SMB plans offered by iiNet provide more data to work with. For $29 monthly per user, iiNet provides 1.5GB, while a $49 plan includes 2GB and a $69 plan includes 5GB.

All the new iiNet plans include unlimited mobile calls between staff and free voicemail. Unlimited SMS is included in the $29, $49 and $69 plans. The $69 plans includes unlimited calling. The $49 plan provides $900 credit and unlimited calling to fixed lines. The $29 plan provides $650 calling credit and the $14.95 plan includes $200.

The plans also require users to have an existing iiNet access service such as xDSL, NBN, fibre or mobile broadband.

“These plans are designed to be simple to understand but most importantly, give business customers the ability to control costs,” said iiNet.
