iTalk slapped with ACMA warning

ACMA has used its formal enforcement powers to issue a warning to iTalk for not complying with the TCP code

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued a formal warning to iTalk (Australia) for not making critical information summaries (CIS) available for its plans.

CIS allow consumers to compare different plans between telcos on a like-for-like basis. Telcos have been required to make CIS available since 1 March this year.

ACMA also recently issued formal warnings to Activ8me and Sure Telecom for failing to make CIS available to customers, with both companies now complying with the Telecommunications Consumer Protections (TCP) code.

“The ACMA expects industry compliance with the TCP Code,” Chris Chapman, ACMA chairman, previously said.

“Where we see non-compliance and bring that to a provider’s attention, we expect a rapid response. In most cases, that has been forthcoming. Where it is not, we will not hesitate to use our formal enforcement powers.

“The industry has known for eight months that these requirements were looming.”
