Security vendor Cylance opens Sydney office

Expansion led by APAC general manager Paul Wilcox

US-headquarted security company Cylance has opened an office in Sydney to serve the Asia-Pacific region.

APAC and Japan general manager Paul Wilcox has been appointed to lead the office. According to the vendor, it expanded into Australia to protect customers from advanced cyber threats.

Cylance CEO Stuart McClure said that the company has an approach called Presponse that exposes compromises, fixes problems and predicts the next area of attack.

"Bringing this methodology to APAC will help protect the region's critical infrastructure and key resources impacting its economic and social welfare," he said in a statement.

In May, Cylance researchers found that one of Google's offices in Sydney used Tridium's NiagaraAX platform with a security vulnerability that could have allowed them to crank up the heating.

The Java-based framework is used as the foundation for applications controlling automated security and power systems, lighting and telecommunications.

Cylance found Google's vulnerable system using Shodan, a search engine designed to find any device connected to the Internet, ranging from refrigerators to CCTV cameras to iPhones and wind turbines.

Cylance has been contacted for more information by Computerworld Australia.
