Nearly 15,000 premises can now sign up for National Broadband Network (NBN) connections in Gungahlin, around 17km from Canberra.
A total of 10,700 premises were switched on to the NBN today in the area in the Australian Capital Territory. Around 14,700 are now connected to the network in Gungahlin.
Communications minister Senator Stephen Conroy said more than 50 per cent of households in Gungahlin have signed up for NBN services, with work in the area beginning in October last year.
“This is one of the fastest take-up rates in Australia,” Senator Kate Lundy, Minister for Sport, said in a statement. “The rollout of the NBN will transform the way people in Gungahlin live, work and learn.”
A total of 4000 premises joined the NBN in Gungahlin in February this year.
The Gungahlin Digital Hub and Enterprise has also previously been announced, which will provide information on the advantages of the NBN to residents, small businesses and not-for-profit organisations.
