Cisco rolls out new gear

Networking company Cisco Systems offered up a grab bag of new offerings, including a host of Internet routers, to showcase during SuperComm in Atlanta this week.

These are some of Cisco's new products and announcements:

-- Cisco 12406 Internet Router -- The one-fourth-rack system provides six slots and support for 10G bps (bits per second) OC-192/STM64 line cards and 120G bps throughput. It is designed for high bandwidth operations in small physical co-locations and data centers. The base configuration starts at US$75,000 and it will be available later in June.

-- Cisco 10005 Internet Router -- The router is designed for a service provider's distributed edge services network. It fits six units per 7 foot (2.12 meters) rack and is designed for mid-range edge service applications and large service providers that need compact technology for various POPs (points of presence), Cisco said. Pricing starts at $26,750 and the Cisco 10005 is available worldwide now.

-- Cisco 7600 Internet Router -- The edge router offers two high-speed channelized optical service modules (OSMs) available in OC-12 and OC-48 options. Each channelized OSM offers a choice of two port densities, a four- and eight-port version for OC-12 and a one- and two-port version for OC-48. It will be available this month and pricing is expected to be announced later, Cisco said.

-- Cisco 7400 Internet Router -- The one-rack unit high router is designed for service provider and corporate networks. The 7400 can be used for services aggregation to support customers using DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), wireless, cable, ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) and leased-line services. The router will be available in June and has a starting price of $19,000, Cisco said.

Cisco 828 G.SHDSL routers and Cisco SOHO 78 G.SHDSL routers will be available the first week of July at list prices of $749 and $649, respectively. Cisco IAD2400 Series Integrated Access Devices with G.SHDSL will be available later this year with list prices starting from $2,695. G.SHDSL WIC cards for Cisco 2600 and 3600 series modular access routers will be available later this year. Availability of G.SHDSL WIC cards for Cisco 1700 series modular access routers will be announced at a later date. Pricing for the WICs for the 1700, 2600 and 3600 series routers will be made during the third fiscal quarter, Cisco said.

-- Cisco announced its Integrated Cisco IOS (Interrnetwork Operating System) XML (eXtensible Markup Language) Interface, which is made up of the Cisco Intelligence Engine (CIE) 2100 and new embedded CNS (Cisco Networking Services) agents in Cisco IOS software.
