Nortel Networks Corp. at Networld+Interop on Wednesday unveiled its Succession Communications Server 1000, a new IP (Internet Protocol) PBX (Pure Branch Exchange) for small and medium-size businesses.
The Succession Communications Server 1000 is a pure IP-PBX (Pure Branch Exchange) telephone system and will be available by July, Eric Ross, president of Enterprise Solutions at Nortel Networks, said during a news conference at Networld+Interop.
The Succession Communications Server 1000 is the latest PBX from the Meridian 1 family of PBX products. The Meridian 1 PBX is designed for larger corporate customers. The server will cost between US$150 and $600 per seat, with the price increasing based on the applications put on the PBX.
In addition to the new server, Nortel announced Business Communications Manager 2.5, the third generation of this IP-enabled or pure-IP integrated voice and data communications system. Business Communications Manager will allow small and medium-size businesses to send and receive voice, data, video and graphics over Internet telephony networks. The system allows for utilizing packet switching, circuit switching or both methods.The latest version offers Internet telephony. Business Communications Manager 2.5 starts at about US$5,000 and will be available in July.
Nortel also announced enhancements to its Passport 8600 packet-routing switch. The Passport 8600 is designed to deliver 10G bps (bit per second) Ethernet in the metropolitan environment, the company said in a statement. The enhancements will be ready by the fourth quarter 2001 and first quarter 2002, the company said.
