All change at Interpath after Caravias promotion
Mark Franklin has been appointed CEO of Interpath Australia (formerly Alta Internet Business Centres) to replace George Caravias, who has been promoted to executive vice president of customer solutions and shipped off to the US.
Franklin joined Interpath from IT services supplier OSIX, where he was chairman and managing director until the company's acquisition by Cambridge Technology Partners. He had previously worked with IBM Global Services in a variety of roles.
Franklin said he has been keenly aware of the ASP market for some time and believes it has now reached a level of maturity "which indicates the ASP's time is now".
Musical chairs for Online Trading Systems
A number of major changes have been announced at listed online financial services provider Online Trading Systems (OTS) in the past week. First up the company restructured its board after the departure of three independent directors. The three-member board of Albert Dadon, executive chairman; Michael Tortoni, who is managing director of OTS subsidiary PeopleTrade; and Alfred Branicki, a lawyer, are all expected to have hands-on roles within the company.
The company subsequently announced that Craig McIvor would also join the board, after being appointed CEO this week. McIvor has worked with AAP for 13 years, the last three of them developing Internet services. He has also been executive director of AAP Information Services and has developed a number of real time trading products.
Just to round out the changes, OTS has appointed Ronald Male company secretary. He is a senior partner of Taylor Partners Chartered Accountants, which recently resigned as auditors of OTS in favour of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
IT chief moves on from travel.com.au
David Upton, one of the founding directors of online travel service travel.com.au, has resigned as CIO and a director of the company. A statement released by the company noted that travel.com.au's recently negotiated partnership with Amadeus has led to a reduction in the size of the company's IT department.
Following Upton's departure the company will no longer employ a CIO, and the IT section will report to Linda Bell, travel.com.au's COO.
Old favourites keep going around
When three IT industry old timers turned up in new roles during the week it almost seemed to indicate that perhaps there are ways to teach old dogs new tricks.
One of the three - Len Rust, who is intimately associated with The Rust Report -came into the limelight with another - Lindsay Yelland - when both accepted seats on the board of IT researcher IDEAS International. Rust, former head of IDC Australia, will be chairman of IDEAS as it moves towards an IPO. He is also on the boards of Genie Systems Australia and is chairman of Australian Distributed Incubator.
Yelland was until recently acting CEO of Solution 6, prior to which he was a group managing director of Telstra. He is currently chairman of Telstra Saturn in NZ, and is on the board of PaperlinX, Layer 2 and SheildTel.
The third of the old timers - and, with all due respects to the other, our favourite by a considerable distance - is Pat Duffy, who faded out of the IT&T industry last July when she took the job of group communications director at George Patterson Bates advertising agency. She has maintained her distance from the IT sector in her latest role as chief general manager of marketing at St George Bank. Before leaving IT Pat's two previous employers had been LookSmart and Telstra.
Around the traps
Following the resignation of Alan Dawson as managing director/CEO of Voicenet, Jim Carmichael has been appointed MD based in Melbourne.
Pastel Accounting, a developer of business accounting software for SMEs, has appointed John North general manager for Australia. North has been a Pastel dealer for 10 years and for the past year has operated a Pastel regional distributorship in Queensland.
Simon Yates has been appointed territory account manager for Western Australia at Cognos. He joined the company from Rothgard International, where he was responsible for business development, and had previously worked for Netbridge.
Anthony Tregurtha has formally been appointed CEO and managing director of CBD Online following its acquisition of Halescom, of which Tregurtha was a founder. In other moves, Barry Moignard, a founder of CBD Online, has been appointed non-executive director of the company, while Stephen Moignard has resigned from the board.
Kevin Russell has been appointed COO of Hutchison Telecommunications. He has worked for the group's telecommunications for some time in Hong Kong and most recently in Israel, where he was director of finance and operations of Partner Communications.
