Yost picks up Telstra spin-off work worth millions

Yost Technologies has been awarded three contracts by European technology giant ABB Group for telecommunications installation and construction work estimated to be worth more than $A30 million over the next three years. The contracts involve a range of services in Western Australia, Country Victoria, Tasmania, and Northern NSW.

ABB was one of eight primary tenderers that won three of the 16 parcels of work on offer for the design, maintenance and upgrade of Telstra's customer access network. The overall value of Telstra's project is $A600 a year for the next three years, and ABB's share is valued at about $A313 million.

Although Yost's slice of the pie is considerably smaller it is nonetheless significant for the Australian company. "This is a major win for the company and will create jobs for design engineers and cable jointers around the country," explained Garry Yost, managing director of Yost Technologies.

Separately, Yost has entered an alliance with Great Southern Energy to work on opportunities in the telecommunications sector. Yost will also act as preferred supplier of telecommunications services to GSE.

"GSE has more than 200,000 residential and business customers as well as an extensive distribution network," said Garry Yost. "Together we are a formidable combination which has the potential to achieve some innovative things in telecommunications."
