Japan set for massive mobile growth

Japan's wireless Internet market will surge by about 1400 per cent by 2005 when it will generate sales of about $US11 billion, according to forecasts by Jupiter Media Metrix. This figure includes the value of wireless content, shopping and advertising. In 2000 the value of the market was $US 335.2 million. Jupiter Media Metrix estimates that last year's worldwide wireless market value of $US369.7 million will grow to $US20.53 billion in 2005. The US market will grow to $US 3.36 billion from last year's figure on $US8.59 million.

Jupiter predicts that the number of Net-enabled mobile phone users will grow to 66 million in 2005, from last year's figure of 27 million.
