Quantum companies expand product lines

Quantum Corporation subsidiaries QuantumATL and Snap Appliances have released new products, the Constellation Series automation tape library solution and Snap Operating System Version 3.0, respectively.

The Constellation Series includes an array of storage solution offerings for Network Appliance customers and others, including the P2000 and P3000 Centaurus; the P2000 and P3000 Pegasus; and the P3000 Gemini series, a mixed Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel solution for heterogeneous environments including both filers and application servers.

The Snap OS, also available in Australia, aims to increase the functionality of all Snap Server platforms with a new feature set for enhanced security, system management, networking and communications.

The company said the capability of all servers has been enhanced to deliver up to 33 per cent more storage capacity to customers.

The solution offers security at the file and directory level for users and groups and enables administrators to establish and manage disk space quotas for individual users.

Addressing the needs of larger corporate workgroup administrators, simple network management protocol allows the servers to be managed by HP Open View, CA Unicenter and similar products.

The operating system also allows system administrators to use Snap Servers as fully functioning FTP servers providing distribution of large files through the server as an FTP download site rather than distribution via e-mail which can slow network traffic.
