Job posting website CareerOne.com.au will post casual work offers through a partnership announced today with Sydney startup, Airtasker.
Whereas CareerOne has previously focussed on full-time job postings, the agreement with Airtasker means its job categories will also include task-based work such as deliveries, house cleaning or computer errands. Airtasker is a website that allows people or businesses to post tasks that potential “runners” can bid to complete.
Under the partnership, Airtasker tasks will be listed alongside CareerOne’s traditional job posts when a user searches for work on the CareerOne website.
Airtasker, which works out of its co-working space Tank Stream Labs in the Sydney CBD, will remain an independent company under the arrangement, Airtasker CEO Tim Fung told Techworld Australia
Airtasker and CareerOne have been working on the integration for a few months, and CareerOne users will begin to see results of the partnership this week, Fung said. However, more work remains, he said.
“We're working together on an algorithm to map CareerOne job search data to relevant task content and building some cool user environments that will support people that want to take on tasks and full/part-time work concurrently as well as those who want focus on earning money in the task economy exclusively,” he said.
“At a technical level, this means that tasks are treated as a horizontal category alongside full-time and part-time work but will also be treated as a vertical category alongside other industry segments such as accounting, education or trade.”
CareerOne CEO Karen Lawson said her company has partnered with Airtasker in response to “incredible growth” of flexible work and casual job opportunities in the workplace.
"Employers, whether they be businesses or individuals are increasingly looking for people to help with individual tasks or short-term projects,” she said.
“The burgeoning ‘task economy’ is a natural extension of the online job market and we see plenty of opportunity for both job seekers and employers to benefit by making it easier for them to connect.”
Australian author and futurist Mark Pesce said the deal is welcome news for the Australian startup scene.
