Dimension Data, NextDC to offer data centre services

Companies team up to provide bundled offers of NextDC’s rack solution

NextDC (ASX:NXT) and Dimension Data have signed a national agreement which will allow the system integrator’s customers access to data centre space around Australia.

Dimension Data will provide NextDC’s OneDC datacentre-as-a-service rack offering to customers or bundle it with Dimension Data’s stack from any NextDC data centre.

The data centre operator currently has five colocation facilities based in Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth and Sydney.

Dimension Data's general manager for data centre services, Peter Prowse, said that the partnership will allow its customers to manage both production and disaster recovery in a “cost effective” manner.

In June, NextDC entered into a contract with an unnamed company for the provision of data centre services.

At the time, a NextDC spokeswoman said the client did not want to be publicly named.

The data centre provider said that the customer had contracted for capacity across its facilities. The term of the contract is for five years with an option to extend. The customer’s initial commitment represents revenue of approximately $60 million excluding electricity recharges.

Dimension Data’s partnership with NextDC follows its acquistion of Australian managed security services provider Earthwave in May for an undisclosed sum. With the Earthwave acquisition, the company has 160 staff in its security solutions business.
