Residents of Lake Cathie in the northern coastal area of New South Wales will receive dedicated 3G mobile coverage with the establishment of a mobile tower by Optus.
Lake Cathie Progress Association secretary Jack Jones said that the area has been a notorious coverage “black spot” with many businesses and residents reliant on dial-up Internet.
“Businesses can now operate much more flexibly, while local residents will stay connected with their loved ones when they’re out and about,” he said in a statement.
Optus has provided trial phones and mobile broadband modems for Lake Cathie residents to test the services at home.
