Orion Health rolls out converged cloud

IaaS will reduce costs, speed delivery time

New Zealand health technology solutions provider Orion Health is introducing a converged cloud service to support its global managed health services.

The company provides solutions to clinicians in more than 35 countries and helps facilitate data exchange between hospitals and health systems.

HP has provided Orion Health with an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) called CloudSystem Matrix. Designed for private and hybrid cloud environments it will allow the company to build a catalogue of applications for deployment.

Orion Health chief technical architect Paul Cunningham said that it was getting more requests for cloud services that were tailored to individual customers.

“It allows us to create templates of our solutions including Web servers. We can deploy these templates within an hour for customers.”

Cunningham said the system is in the stages of being deployed in New Zealand for district health boards that the company works with. It will also be rolled out to Australia later this year.

“The US is the most advanced country in terms of rollout. We can take the learning’s from the US and apply it around the world,” he said.

According to Cunningham, the implementation will allow it to increase performance through an IaaS model that adjusts to business demands, improve availability through a system enclosure that adds redundancy to each server and lower administration costs.

“We can lower costs by enabling admins to manage virtual and physical resources using the same set of tools.”
