Virgin Australia restores check-in, booking services

Airline warns that there will be delays and flight cancellations

Virgin Australia has confirmed that its Sabre booking and check-in system was restored at 4pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) after an outage that lasted two hours.

However, a Virgin Australia spokeswoman warned that there will be some delays and flight cancellations today.

“We are advising customers to reconsider the need for travel. Customers that do not turn up to flights today will not be penalised and will be provided with a full credit for the cost of their flight,” she said in a statement.

The spokeswoman added that customers should only call the guest contact centre today if their call is urgent.

The airline has offered a compensation policy for customers who travel today including:

  • A full credit for the itinerary including connecting flights

  • Ability to change the flight free of charge to another service to the same destination for travel before 13 August 2013

  • Customers travelling away from home may be eligible for hotel accommodation.
