ASG wins TAB contract

Western Australian-based services company ASG (Amcon Solutions Group) has won a lucrative contract with the state's TAB (Totalisator Agency Board) to migrate the betting agency's Oracle systems from a mainframe environment to a mid-range platform.

The deal follows three consecutive contract wins for the services outfit after securing agreements with Clough Engineering, Iluka Resources and AlintaGas worth more than $7 million in the next 12 months.

The Western Australian TAB deal is the first phase of a potential multimillion-dollar upgrade project planned by WATAB to reduce costs and beef up security around its Oracle database applications. According to one industry source, the deal is expected to yield $2 million over the next 12 to 18 months.

ASG reportedly beat off stiff competition from several companies, including Fujitsu, KAZ Group and Unisys West, for the tender, which was lodged late last year.

With the first phase of the migration expected to be complete by October this year, Geoff Lewis, ASG's CEO, is confident the company will secure the remaining services and deployment contract for the rest of the WATAB project.
