HomeRepair builds on performance analytics

Staff completing jobs six times faster by using dashboards

Melbourne based construction firm, HomeRepair, has cut the time taken to complete repair jobs by using performance analytics dashboards.

The company specialises in repairing damaged homes in Melbourne, Hobart and Adelaide on behalf of insurance companies.

COO Amanda McMullan told Computerworld Australia that it had a good transactional system but extremely limited reporting capability.

“We were not working in a proactive way to understand the priorities that needed to happen next,” she said.

McMullan was introduced to Tableau Software’s Tableau 8 product in late 2011.

“We are using Tableau very proactively to show us the next thing that needs to be done and who needs to do it. We have grown the ability to understand where resources are needed on a particular day and can move people between [construction] teams.”

As a result, HomeRepair has cut repair times by half and costs by 20 per cent. The company has also gone from having one report to a series of bespoke dashboards for each of the teams which use them.

Workers access the dashboards on their iPads while they are on the road or at job sites.

“The dashboards have taken about 25 per cent of the resourcing requirement out of a particular activity because you can see the information in front of you,” she said.

For example, team leaders use the dashboards to monitor task lists, track performance and allocate resources.
