Clearswift acquires Jedda Systems

Co-founder Kym Welsby takes on new role at Clearswift

Security firm Clearswift has acquired endpoint solutions developer Jedda Systems for an undisclosed sum. The Adelaide-based company will be operating within the Clearswift portfolio and is supported by the company's Sydney office.

Jedda Systems co-founder Kym Welsby will stay on as endpoint solutions product manager.

“We are really excited to be working within the Clearswift global umbrella and know that our combined knowledge and demand for product excellence will continue to create software that provides superior security solutions to businesses around the globe,” he said in a statement.

According to Clearswift, the acquisition extends the content aware network data loss prevention (DLP) services integrated within its Web and email gateway products.

Clearswift CEO Heath Davies said that Welsby and four other engineering staff have become part of the Clearswift organisation.

"There will be an additional investment in engineering headcount to help speed the integration with Clearswift products," he said.

Davies added that the Jedda name will cease to exist. Guy Bunker and Kym Welsby have developed an integration plan to move the Jedda management console functionality from a Windows platform to the Linux platform that Clearswift products are developed upon.

"This will ensure a seamless integration and management experience for our customers thus reducing the management costs as well as the operational complexity of deploying a full network/endpoint DLP solution," Davies said.

Chris Christiansen, security products and services vice president at IDC in the US, said that data loss prevention is a critical component of messaging security.

“When correctly integrated, it can help manage regulatory compliance violations, privacy breaches, and intellectual property losses,” he said.

“This is not a simple process because these acts range from accidental leaks to mischievous circumventions of policy to malicious thefts and embarrassingly deliberate disclosures.”

According to Christiansen, with the acquisition of Jedda Systems, Clearswift is moving forward towards simplifying this complexity and improving on these situations.
