Auto body rejects telcos' grab for VPN exclusivity

Australia's peak automotive industry body has baulked at telco proposals to hold exclusive service provision rights to a potentially massive, new industry-wide virtual private network.

Klaus Jahn, Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries Australian Automotive Network Exchange (AANX) subcommittee head, told Computerworld both Optus and Telstra had each declined to get involved unless they were the sole service provider for the network.

He said Optus executives were adamant that they should be the sole provider, while Telstra executives had expressed doubts over the viability of the project should more than one service provider be involved.
