NineMSN jumps into cloud for catch-up TV

Cloud service streams video to browsers, smartphones and tablets

NineMSN has selected a cloud-based video service to power its new catch-up TV service, Jump-in.

The digital media company is using Brightcove Video Cloud to deliver ad-supported video for more than 80 premium content sites, Brightcove said.

The service lets NineMSN consolidate all its video services under one online platform that can deliver video to Australian viewers on the Web, smartphones and tablets using HTML5 and Flash.

The cloud service allows NineMSN to transcode breaking news content to the Apple HLS standard and integrate that transcoding ability with the existing NineMSN workflow, Brightcove said.

The service also provides desktop and mobile digital rights management (DRM) protection for the brand’s premium content, and it integrates with ad platform FreeWheel so that NineMSN can combine its content with interactive advertising, it said.

“Video Cloud’s ability to deliver breaking news, long-form content and catch-up content across all devices without compromising the viewing experience has made an immense difference to our business,” said Damian Cronan, chief technology officer at Mi9, which is owned by Nine Entertainment.

Other media companies that use Brightcove for digital distribution in the Asia Pacific include Yahoo!7, Foxtel and Sony Entertainment.
