Telstra Global expands colocation data centre services

Telco offering services from Sydney, US and Asia facilities

In response to customer demand for network and cloud services, Telstra Global has announced expansion of its Sydney data centre along with international facilities in the United States and Asia.

The data centre in Sydney’s CBD has had 155 more racks of medium and high density capacity added. In addition, the telco is offering services through facilities in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and San Jose.

A new data centre has been opened in Tokyo while low latency network connectivity services are to be offered from its Singapore facility. In total, Telstra Global can now offer customers 150,000 square feet of colocation floor space globally.

The expansions have been made as part of the telco’s Connected Colocation offering which allows companies to connect to 18 data centres around the world.

According to Telstra Global head of network application and services portfolio Martin Bishop, the expanded coverage is its “next step” in providing multinational companies with access to overseas data centres under one service level agreement.

“These capabilities will meet the rapidly growing demand for integrated network and cloud services of our media and financial organisation,” he said in a statement.

“Our extended footprint of data centres is connected to Telstra Global’s extensive telecommunications network, offering advanced solutions and consistency regardless of location that is critical to many of today’s business applications.”

In June 2013, the company announced the extension of its cloud infrastructure platform in Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Kingdom as part of an $800 million investment in cloud computing services.

During October, Telstra CEO David Thodey said the telco would take a “considered look” at expanding its business in Asia.

“The reality for a company like Telstra is that we must become more and more involved in Asia,” said Thodey. “We just don’t have an option.”
