Optus Business revenue increased 2.4 per cent to $378 million in the December quarter despite declines in data and voice revenue, the telco reported today. The biggest increase was in ICT and managed services, with revenue jumping 26 per cent to $126 million.
Data and IP revenue fell to 93 million and voice revenue fell to $90 million.
The telco attributed the 14 per cent decline of revenue for the former category to "price competition and decline in legacy data services as customers continued to migrate to IP network solutions".
The 3.2 per cent deline in voice revenue was attributed to price erosion and businesses switching to IP telephony.
The telco signed a $30 million, five-year contract with UGL during the quarter. Along with smartphones and mobile services for the engineering and property services company’s workforce, the deal included managed data and ICT services.
Overall Optus reported a net profit of $227 million for the quarter ending 31 December.
This represented revenue growth of 41 per cent. Revenue declined by 5 per cent in the same period, with the telco citing fewer handset shipments and a reduction in mobile termination fees.
The telco said that the number of 4G devices on its network grew by more than 30 per cent in the quarter to 1.8 million
Parent company Singtel reported its net profit was up 6 per cent for the quarter to S$872 million (A$762.7 million).
