NextDC unveils $80m Perth data centre

Facility has created 15 new jobs

NextDC (ASX: NXT) has opened its $80 million data centre in Perth today.

The facility, known as P1, has created 15 jobs. According to the company, it is one of two Uptime Institute (UTI) Tier III-certified data centres in Western Australia.

The facility features 5.5 megawatts of IT load across 3,000 square metres. Aside from data centre space, customers will be able to lease office space and use meeting rooms plus a 'chill-out' room with a kitchen, lounge, TV and free Wi-Fi.

NextDC CEO Craig Scroggie said in a statement that the facility delivers on its vision of providing a “neutral, national network” for customers and partners.

In December 2013, NextDC COO Simon Cooper said that the company planned to build a solar array at P1 during 2014.

This followed the rollout of a solar array at its Melbourne data centre, M1. Customers who take up the solar power service will be provided with a carbon footprint reading which shows their solar and grid power consumption.
