Westpac renews Optus mobile contract

Five-year deal covers 13,000 mobile devices

Westpac has signed a new five-year deal with Optus, with the telco to continue managing 13,000 mobile devices for the bank.

The deal also covers services including the bank's ATM network, payments infrastructure and SMS gateways, according to statement issued by Optus. The telco will also deliver technology for Westpac's contact centres.

Optus has had a long-standing relationship with St George, which was taken over by Westpac in 2008.

The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

Yesterday Westpac announced a five-year networking and voice contract with Telstra. That contract included delivering Westpac's domestic data network, Internet access and voice telecoms.

The contract includes moving St George offices on to Telstra's network. Three hundred St George sites will be upgraded to fibre, Telstra said.
