Telstra Global extends European network

Global division establishes network-to-network interconnection agreement with GTS Central Europe

Telstra Global (ASX:TLS) has established a network-to-network interconnection (NNI) agreement with GTS Central Europe, a fibre optic and data centre network provider.

GTS’ network has 27 points of presence (PoPs) in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. These PoPs provide connections to 266,000 office buildings in the five countries.

According to Telstra Global's head of connectivity and platforms portfolio, Bernadette Noujaim Baldwin, the partnership with GTS will enhance the company’s existing Internet Protocol (IP) virtual private network (VPN) service coverage of 1,900 PoPs in 230 countries. Telstra Global has also added PoPs in Frankfurt, Paris and Amsterdam.

In addition, the company is offering infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) based cloud nodes. Telstra Global customers get access to virtual and dedicated managed servers, as well as storage and security services, from data centres in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney. This service was launched in June 2013.

In November 2013, Telstra Global announced expansion of its Sydney data centre along with international facilities in the United States and Asia.

The data centre in Sydney’s CBD has had 155 more racks of medium and high density capacity added. In addition, the telco is offering services through facilities in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and San Jose.

A new data centre was opened in Tokyo while low latency network connectivity services are to be offered from its Singapore facility. In total, Telstra Global can now offer customers 150,000 square feet of colocation floor space globally.

The expansions have been made as part of the telco’s Connected Colocation offering that allows companies to connect to 18 data centres around the world.
