Equinix Australia has promoted sales director Jeremy Deutsch to the position of country manager, after former managing director Tony Simonsen left the data centre provider on 26 March.

Simonsen took a role as Avaya Australia and New Zealand’s MD.

Deutsch will be based in Sydney. His priority is opening the Equinix’s $66 million Melbourne data centre ME1 that is scheduled for completion in Q4 of 2014. Fifteen full time jobs will be created as a result of the construction.

In addition, Deutsch will be working to support the continued growth of the company’s Sydney data centre SY3. A $32 million expansion of SY3 was completed in April this year. The expansion provided space for an additional 1,000 cabinets. The facility has capacity for 3,000 cabinets.

As Equinix Australia sales director, Deutsch grew the Australian customer base from 2008 to 2013.

“The experience I have developed over my time with Equinix and the great team who I work with will assist us in this next phase [of growth]. I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead,” he said in a statement.
