LG will Webcast its G3 smartphone launch

Web site confirms smartphone's arrival at 1 p.m. ET today, with teaser video

LG Electronics is offering a live Webcast of the launch of its new G3 smartphone and possibly its new G Watch smartwatch starting at 1 p.m. ET today.

The company confirmed on its Website this morning that the LG G3 will be unveiled during the event.

LG has included a teaser video on the website that confirms some of the rumors about the brushed-metal styling and slender shape of the successor to the G2.

And a separate leaked page from LG that was captured by several Web sites includes images of the expected 5.5-in display with a quad HD resolution at 2560 x 1440 pixels.

Earlier reports said LG would use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. The latest ones, though, say it will run a Snapdragon 801, which is used in recent phones from HTC, Samsung and Sony.

Early reports also said the G3 will include a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, but the rating could only be 12-megapixels, according to a leaked product page. A removable 3,000 mAh battery and Smart Notice software are also expected.

The G Watch running on Android Wear could also be launched today, and LG has already said it will be water resistant and have an always-on display.

Wear is Google's platform to extend Android to wearables beyond smartphones and tablets. The user interface uses voice command and Google Now to give a user information.

Today's event takes place simultaneously in London, New York and San Francisco. Computerworld will post reports by staff attending both the London and New York events.
