The price of 4K monitors could fall to under US$400 by the end of the this year, according to Intel.
Monitors with 4K support display images at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, four times the number of pixels found on 1080p high-definition monitors or TVs.
The chip maker is working with ViewSonic and TPV -- which sells monitors under the AOC and Envision brands -- to introduce budget monitors later this year, said Kirk Skaugen, senior vice president and general manager of the PC Client Group at Intel, during a news conference at the Computex trade show in Taipei.
Intel is also working with companies like MSI to introduce 4K all-in-one PCs under $999 by the end of the year, Skaugen said. Intel is also working with Mitac, Wibtec, Loop and Hibertek on sub-$1,000 devices, he said.
Prices have been steadily coming down, with some 4K monitors now available at $699. 4K monitors are available from Samsung, Sharp, Lenovo, Asus and Dell.
TVs and cameras with 4K resolution are already on the market.
Intel didn't exactly say how they would bring the prices of 4K monitors down, but Skaugen said the demand for such displays will increase with computing becoming more visual. Intel's Thunderbolt connector technology already supports 4K transmission.
