AVG becomes a Cloud company with CloudCare

Security vendors moves away from traditional antivirus and goes after the SMB market

AVG Technologies is moving away from being a traditional antivirus company to a become provider of Cloud services.

The security company built its reputation on antivirus products, though corporate sales director, Michael Dowling, said new offerings such as CloudCare and Managed Workplace are designed to grow AVG’s representation in the SMB segment.

“CloudCare is a SMB administration platform provided to partners free of charge to help them remotely manage even the smallest customers,” he said.

Dowling adds that Managed Workplace, a remote management and monitoring tool built on an open eco-system, is an extension of CloudCare.

An SMB region

The SMB market presents an opportunity for growth for AVG, particularly in Australia.

Dowling said the Czech-based security vendor has been keeping a close eye on the Australian SMB market even from overseas.

“SMB is the driver of the Australian economy, and AVG sees the market as a real growth opportunity,” he said.

AVG has a network of 2500 channel partners across the Asia Pacific region, which Dowling said provides the security company with “fair representation” in the SMB channel.

“Our key focus is the channel, and we have a partner program designed to attract partners who focus on SMBs,” he said.

Dowling adds that local SMB partners are significant for AVG, to the point where they provide input into the development of products aimed at the segment.
