CIO Executive Council launches Pathways Express

New one-day program designed and delivered by highly experienced CIOs

The CIO Executive Council has launched Pathways Express, a one-day intensive learning and development program for organisations that want to improve the business acumen of their senior ICT executives.

Caroline Bucknell, general manager of the CIO Executive Council in Australia, said CIOs requested that the council introduce this program.

“CIOs tell us that they want, and need, to invest in the development of their key IT staff but don’t have the time or money for longer-term learning programs.

“In response, we created Pathways Express – it’s a lower cost, high-value alternative to develop your leaders in a shorter timeframe,” Bucknell said.

The CIO Executive Council approached three of its members – who collectively have more than 60 years experience in IT – to design and deliver Pathways Express.

Carsten Larsen, CIO at the Australian Communications and Media Authority, Peter Nevin, CIO at Genea, and Garry Whatley, former VP digital, IT and business services at Staples Australia have created the new program.

They have contributed their knowledge and experience to produce a real-world, practical development program that equips individuals with the skills they need to more effectively manage the demands and complexities of contemporary business.

Pathways Express is backed by CIO-designed frameworks, resources and lessons learned from the global council arsenal, including more than 3000 member contributed materials.

Key curriculum focus areas include; building executive relationships, stakeholder alignment, change management, strategic planning, as well as ICT governance and risk management.

ACMA’s Carsten Larsen said the program provides IT staff with access to three highly experienced CIOs who can give them an in-depth understanding of what it means to drive technology to deliver successful business outcomes.

“It goes beyond theory by providing attendees with real-life examples of how technology leaders deal with IT issues every day while concurrently planning the longer-term strategic path for the organisation,” he said.

Genea’s Peter Nevin said in the fast-paced business world of today, many senior technology executives don’t have the time or money to invest in development programs for themselves or their staff.

“The Pathways Express program provides access to experienced CIOs delivering valuable information in a quick and affordable one-day program to develop key staff and deliver better outcomes to the business, which makes it a win-win for all involved,” he said.

Finally, Garry Whatley said Pathways Express provides technology leaders with a blend of business insights, best practices and real world experiences to position them for success.

“This one day intensive course will develop skills that are fundamental to all business leaders in today’s challenging and exciting digital environment,” Whatley said.
