Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia will establish a new academy with Cisco at the university’s Tonsley Park campus to help students with their ICT degrees.

Cisco staff will train Flinders students to work with new technologies and digital innovations. The academy will train students in disciplines such as cyber security, for example. Students can undertake the training while still studying their ICT degrees.

So far, the university has invested $14 million in the project for the development of a Wi-Fi network at its Bedford Park campus in Adelaide.

The Wi-Fi network provides 22,000 students and 2,000 staff with 1Gbps speeds to the desktop while supporting a big push to the cloud.

The network is based on the Cisco Unified Access platform and has replaced ageing infrastructure that provides 10/100Mbps connectivity to the desktop.

Flinders University also uses Cisco Telepresence video conferencing to deliver high-definition video tools between staff across the campuses.

The university is a member of the AARNet academic and research network and will use the Telepresence Exchange to communicate with other member institutions in Australia and overseas.
