In brief: Zendesk seeks room to grow

Expands Asia Pacific Development Centre

Helpdesk software-as-a-service provider Zendesk has expanded its Melbourne development centre into a new building, adding capacity for another 100 work stations.

Zendesk opened the Melbourne-based Asia Pacific Development Centre in late 2012. The company opened its APAC headquarters in the city in September 2011.

The company employs 40 people in Melbourne and has more than 1500 customers in Australia and New Zealand.

"Victoria’s very strong IT skills base, outstanding R&D capabilities and growing strengths in areas like cloud computing and data analytics brought Zendesk here to expand its international software development team," Victorian technology minister Gordon Rich-Phillips said in a statement revealing the move.

"The company’s expansion highlights our state’s growing attractiveness as a destination for IT investment in the Asia Pacific region," the minister said.

The chief of Zendesk's local operation, Michael Hansen, last year told Computerworld that he wanted to "double everything" over the next 12 months.

The company was founded in Copenhagen in 2007 and now headquartered in San Francisco. The company says it has more than 40,000 customers in 40 countries, and more than 500 employees worldwide.
